Important Information
In preparation for your upcoming procedure or surgery, your physician may order additional laboratory tests or medical consultations.
- After you are scheduled, please register, and complete your online medical history at onemnethealth.com This ensures your visit with us will be satisfying, safe, and successful.
- On the day of your procedure, please arrive at your appointed time set by the Norwalk Surgery Center scheduler. If you opt into texts and emails from One Mnet Health, you will receive your arrival time the morning before the day of your procedure.
- The address of our facility is 40 Cross Street, Suite #120, Norwalk, CT. The surgery center is located on the 1st floor of the medical building.
- Please bring your insurance card and a government issued ID such as a driver’s license.
- Currently, there are NO Covid-19 testing or proof of vaccination requirements at Norwalk Surgery Center.
Please call your physician’s office if you have any changes in your health – especially upper respiratory symptoms like fever, sore throat, or cough -- prior to your appointment date.
PRE-PROCEDURE INSTRUCTIONS FOR ADULT PATIENTS
- Please arrange for a responsible adult (age 18 or older) to drive you home and accompany you home after your procedure. Your recovery nurse will contact them via phone with an approximate pick-up time after your procedure.
- Do not eat (including gum, mints, and hard candy) within eight (8) hours before your arrival. You may have clear liquids up to two (2) hours before your assigned arrival time. Undigested food in the stomach can cause complications and your surgery may be postponed or cancelled.
- Leave all valuables at home. The Norwalk Surgery Center cannot be responsible for them. You may bring your cell phone.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing that can accommodate a possible bandage, cast, or other type of dressing. During surgery, you will wear a Norwalk Surgery Center gown.
- Remove all makeup and contacts.
- Do not wear any metal or jewelry anywhere on your body. This includes hair pins, piercings, and rings.
- If you are taking medication on a regular basis, consult your surgeon/ prescribing physician on which medications to take the day of surgery. Blood thinners or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) may have to be stopped prior to the date of surgery. Blood pressure medications ending in "-pril" or "-artan" are to be held the day of surgery. If you are diabetic and use insulin, please ask your prescribing doctor about your pre-surgery insulin dosage.
- If you suspect that you are pregnant, please contact your physician immediately.
- Your physician will provide post-procedure instructions. A written summary of these instructions will be provided to you before discharge.
PRE-PROCEDURE INSTRUCTIONS FOR PEDIATRIC PATIENTS
- One parent or legal guardian must remain in the Center while their child (less than age 18) is at the facility. A parent or legal guardian may accompany their child to the operating room at the discretion of the anesthesiologist.
- Do not eat (including gum, mints, and hard candy) within eight (8) hours before your arrival time. You may have clear liquids up to two (2) hours before your assigned arrival time and breast milk up to 4 hours before your assigned arrival time, subject to change according to the anesthesiologist’s assessment and approval. Undigested food in the stomach can cause complications and your surgery may be postponed or cancelled.
- Please bring a bottle or ‘sippy’ cup if your child does not drink from a cup.
- Please bring any comfort items like a favorite stuffed animal or blanket. No pets!
- If your child takes prescribed medications, please consult your child's pediatrician for instructions on holding medications.
- Your physician will provide post-procedure instructions. A written summary of these instructions will be provided to you before discharge.
POST-PROCEDURE FOR ALL PATIENTS
- After your procedure, you will recover in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
Your time in the PACU will vary depending on the procedure and anesthesia guidelines. Most patients are discharged within one to two hours of their procedure’s finish. - If you had anesthesia and/or pain medications (narcotics), post-procedure drowsiness is expected. Arrange for a responsible adult to remain with you at home for at least 24 hours.
We also require that you postpone these activities for 24 hours after discharge:
- Driving and operating equipment
2. Signing important legal papers
3. Consuming alcohol and marijuana
PRE-PROCEDURE INSTRUCTIONS FOR PATIENTS RECIEVING LOCAL ANESTHESIA
- You can drive yourself to and from your procedure.
- You can eat and drink prior to your procedure.
